In September designer Tom Ford unveiled his womenswear relaunch following a six year hiatus. It was a cloak and dagger production to say the least. A tightly edited group of VIP guests including Beyonce and Lauren Hutton were reportedly asked to sign confidentiality agreements to keep the launch under wraps.
Since then the fashion community have been desperate to get a glimpse of Ford's designs and today that moment has arrived. Photographer Terry Richardson was the only snapper allowed inside the presentation, and his images feature alongside a top-to-toe interview with the former Gucci and YSL design genius in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar which goes on sale on Dec 6.
The designer tells journalist Clare Coulson that collection doesn’t come cheap, with prices closer to couture than ready-to-wear. According to the piece in Harper's dresses range from about £2,900 to £22,000, and jackets cost about £2,500. ‘My clothes are expensive,’ says Ford, unashamedly. ‘But for me, at this stage in my life, what’s interesting is trying to make the best thing I can make.'
*Ford picked a cast of models that varied in age from 20 years old to 70 years old. Designer Giles Deacon did a smiliar thing at his spring 11 LFW show. Perhaps the celebration of real woman of all ages is upon us.
